Check out the new group at Cairnlea, Vic!

Coinciding with SewMAYHEM, a new group at Cairnlea started out with a brilliantly colourful first meeting in May, with 16 participants attending, fifteen ladies and one gentleman. Click here to find out location and meeting details.

Group Coordinator, Fay Chiaplias reports:
"We started off with introducing our Guest Speaker, a very talented embellishing artist, Nola Sterling. Nola had a large arrangement of quilts and jackets with lots of different embellishing techniques. One was made using shrinking fabric that she had used in hand bags and jackets. She also had two beautiful shawls, all made from scraps of cotton, lace and wool.  Nola doesn’t throw away any scraps! Instead, she uses them to do crazy patchwork for creating cuffs and collars.  We were all amazed at the beautiful items that she had to show us on the day. An excellent speaker, Nola had us hook, line and sinker and we all agreed to have her back to do a workshop on using wool and scraps to make a beautiful shawl or to use it for collars for a special outfit. Nola told us she uses a wash away stabilizer for this process. Dates will be organised and booked in and put on the syllabus for everyone to know when this work shop will happen."

In addition to the demonstration, here's what people were working on:

Chris - a very intricate diamond cut patchwork piece.
Lorraine -our Regional Coordinator - showed us how she does crazy patchwork and then she uses it on a collar for a Jacket she is making.
Evelyn - our Membership secretary - was drafting a fit from the Palmer Fletch fitting system.
Liz – was making a mobile and a growth chart for her new grandson
Sava – was learning his machine as he will be making a lined vest in a beautiful wool blend. Measurements to be adjusted next meeting.
Leanne has a new machine and was also learning how it works and doing very well with names in different fonts.
Sue – working on her Mums roses’ block
Fay - working on Mums roses block appliqué.
